"Hello?" "Ainsley, it's me, Sam. Aren't I brilliant? "Well, let's see Sam. It's 3:30 a.m., I have to get up in 3 and a half hours, you probably before that, and you're calling me on the phone for a discussion that will, in all likelihood, be considered `not short'. Now, what did you ask me again?" " `Not short'?" "Again I stress the 3:30 a.m." "Look, I just thought this would be a good way to talk without any interruptions or . . .other stuff." " `Other stuff'?" "It is 3:30 in the morning." "Ok, Sam, if you want to talk pause...rustle, rustle then let's talk." "What're you doing?" "Getting comfortable." "Where?" "In my bed, Sam. What does it matter?" "I'm in my bed, too." "Oh. Really? I...I don't think this topic is-" "What're you wearing?" "Sam!" "Just kidding." "Are we actually going to have a serious conversation, or were you just going to-" "Ainsley, hold on a minute. I've got another call." "Sam, I-" click "Sam Seaborne" "Sam, it's Josh. I forgot to ask if you were going to see that movie Thursday night." "Are you asking me out?" "Whatever. Donna and I made plans to see it so I was wondering if you were going, too." "Scared?" "What the hell? No! Why would I be-" "Yah. Listen, I have someone on the other line." "Who would be calling you this late?" "Well, you , for starters. Anyway, they didn't call me I called them and I really have to go." "Wait a minute, you didn't answer-" click "Ainsley?" yawn "I'm still here. Barely." "You sound tired. sigh I'm sorry, maybe this wasn't such a hot idea. It's late, and I know Tribbey's been working you some horrific hours lately and-" "I serve at the pleasure of the president, Sam. I don't mind." "Still I...what?" "I said I didn't mind." "No, before that." "I serve at the pleasure of the president?" silence "Sam?" "Would you like to see a movie with me Thursday night?" "What?" "There's a movie showing in the White House theater Thursday. You don't have any plans do you?" "No, but-" "No, listen, it'll be perfect. We can sit in the far corner where we can talk and no one will shush us. Plus, the Presidents going to be there so I doubt we'll be tempted to...you know...get distracted. It's the perfect plan!" silence "Ainsley?" "Yah, sure, Sam. That sounds fine." "Great! I'll see you then. Sleep well." click softly Sweet dreams, Sam. click TBC
